It All Started With a Chair

I promised here that I’m going to watch Juno. And I just did. I love it! It was super funny. Not a slapstick kind of funny. It was an intelligent, sarcastic, and witty humor. You know I love those. Every second of it was so real. No compromises, no pretensions, no hypocrisy. Just telling it as it is.

If you haven’t seen it yet and you want to read the synopsis, click here. I love the soundtrack. If you want it, just tell me and comment. Here is the lyrics of the song Ellen Page and Michael Cera sang at the end of the movie. I included the chords because I just felt so generous today.

Anyone Else But You

You’re a part time lover and a full time friend

The monkey on you’re back is the latest trend
G Cmaj7
I don’t see what anyone can see, in anyone else
But you

Here is the church and here is the steeple
We sure are cute for two ugly people
I don’t see what anyone can see, in anyone else
But you

We both have shiny happy fits of rage
You want more fans, I want more stage
I don’t see what anyone can see, in anyone else
But you

You are always trying to keep it real
I’m in love with how you feel
I don’t see what anyone can see, in anyone else
But you

I kiss you on the brain in the shadow of a train
I kiss you all starry eyed, my body’s swinging from side to side
I don’t see what anyone can see, in anyone else
But you

The pebbles forgive me, the trees forgive me
So why can’t, you forgive me?
I don’t see what anyone can see, in anyone else
But you

Du du du du du du dudu
Du du du du du du dudu
I don’t see what anyone can see, in anyone else…

August Rush

August RushI know a lot of critics thought this movie sucks, but I beg to differ. I love it. First of all, August Rush is all about the music and the movie delivered. The music is amazing and the cinematography just fits perfectly. The plot was just simple. It’s about an orphaned boy, Evan Taylor a.k.a August Rush (Freddie Highmore), who uses music as a way of finding his parents. Both of his parents are musicians. His mother, Lyla Novacek (Keri Russell), a young cellist and his father, Louis Connelly (Jonathan Rhys Meyers), an Irish rock star met at a party one night and fell in love. But Lyla’s music career was on the rise, so her father forbade her to see Louis. Lyla got pregnant from that chance encounter with Louis. But she got into an accident. Her father told her that her baby died, but not until her dad’s death bed did she found out that her father gave her baby up for adoption.

The movie is all of their journey in finding one another. It is a little far fetched, I admit…okay a lot. But I think that’s the point of the movie, it’s like a modern musical fairy tale set in New York.

Here is the movie’s soundtrack:

1. Main Title - Mark Mancina
2. Bach / Break - Steve Erdody and Jonathan Rhys Meyers
3. Moondance - Featuring Jonathan Rhys Meyers
4. This Time - Jonathan Rhys Meyers
5. Bari Improv - Kaki King
6. Ritual Dance - Kaki King
7. Raise It Up - Jamia Simone Nash and Impact Repertory Theater
8. Dueling Guitars - Heitor Pereira and Doug Smith
9. Elgar / Something Inside - Steve Erdody and Jonathan Rhys Meyers
10. August’s Rhapsody - Featuring Freddie Highmore - Mark Mancina
11. Someday - John Legend
12. King Of The Earth - John Ondrasik
13. God Bless The Child - Chris Botti and Paula Cole
14. La Bamba - Leon Thomas III
15. Moondance - Chris Botti

This is the trailer:

September 11

September DawnI recently saw this movie called September Dawn, a film based on a true story about the Mountain Meadows Massacre. Although the incident remained to be unsolved, the movie portrayed how 120 unarmed men, women, and children were murdered by a group of Mormon settlers at Mountain Meadows in Utah Territory. This terrible act of terrorism happened on September 11, 1857. Same date as the more famous massacre, the day the World Trade Centers went down. It got me thinking, is the date September 11 somehow cursed?

I got curious and dug up more on what else happened on this particular date. I found another massacre this time in Ireland, the September 11, 1649 Massacre of Drogheda under Oliver Cromwell. Another religiously inspired act of violence. It got me questioning again, this time about the hypocrisy of it all. All religious beliefs openly preach peace and love. I haven’t heard even one religious faith that teaches otherwise, yet almost all tragedies and violence and war involves religion. How twisted is that?

Don’t get me wrong, I’m a Christian and I am proud to be one. But that doesn’t mean I condone and turn a blind eye on those so called Christians in the old days or even now who murders people in the name of God. That’s just crazy and contradictory. And anyone who falls for a leader who preaches God and mass murder at the same time is stupid. As what our pastor always say “Chew up the meat, spit out the bone“. Don’t eat out everything that is handed out to you. Think for yourself.

I know some people might find this subject offensive or may have some different opinions as I have OR can even write it more articulately (sadly this article is just a mess lol I’m a scatter brain when I’m all riled up). By all means comment up.

Here are some Wikipedia links that might be useful on this particular subject:

Juno

Juno MacGuff, “It all started with a chair.

I’m getting more and more curious about the new movie Juno. Starring Ellen Page, Michael Cera, Jason Bateman, and Jennifer Garner. I keep reading tons of good reviews about it. I’m going to definitely watch it.  What can I say, I love teen movies.

Ellen Page and Michael Cera

Plot Outline:

Faced with an unplanned pregnancy, an offbeat young woman makes an unusual and bizarre decision regarding her unborn child.

Review (from IMDB):

I saw this movie and was really looking forward to it, because I liked the director’s last offering, “Thank You For Smoking”. I was completely knocked off of my feet! The humor was completely entertaining and didn’t dwindle into a perverted cuss fest like some other comedy offerings of late (Superbad). The actors did a tremendous job - J.K. Simmons (no longer will he just be remembered for Spiderman), Ellen Page was incredible (finally a movie to like her in - Hard Candy was just too creepy, sorry), and Jason Bateman and Jennifer Garner are paired up once again (also paired in The Kingdom) and play the embattled parents to be of this new child while facing their own demons in their struggling marriage. The movie was just very real, and also gives anyone hope that good things can come out of seemingly bad and insurmountable odds. Go and see this film!

Indiana Jones

The new Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull movie poster has just been released.   I haven’t really seen the old Indiana Jones, maybe I should start watching them and see what the buzz is all about.  To tell you the truth, I’m more excited about Shia Labeouf being in it.  Harrison Ford looks overly photoshopped in this one.

I’m Sitting

Schuyler FiskI was watching I’m Reed Fish earlier. It was an okay semi-indie film. All about the love and love lost of Reed Fish, set in a small town of Mud Meadows. But what I’m really excited about right now is the song From Where I’m Standing by the actress turn musician Schuyler Fisk. I’m sure you’ve seen her somewhere. The first time I seen her was in Babysitter’s Club. I was shocked when she sang, I never knew she could. I love the song, especially the acoustic. Here you could listen to it.

Oh and while I was looking for the video, I found this girl in YouTube with an Amazing voice and talent. Here’s her version of From Where I’m Standing.

From where i’m standing
you’re the quiet side of the road
you’re looking so lonely
and i can’t stop looking at you
your head is hanging
trying to beat those goodbye blues
i bet you’ll be fine
i bet you’ll be fine

i guess it’s not the way
you always planned it
looks like you’re heading for a
crash landing
that’s just the way it looks
from where i’m standing
from where i’m standing

from where i’m standing
i think i caught your eye
are you looking at me
cause i swear i saw you smile
and i’m coming over
gonna take things off your mind
and i bet you’ll be fine
and i bet you’ll be fine

i guess it’s not the way
you always planned it
looks like you’re heading for a
crash landing
that’s just the way it looks
from where i’m standing

from where i’m standing
let it fall
let it come down
let it crash around you
around you

i guess it’s not the way
you always planned it
looks like you’re heading for a
crash landing
that’s just the way it looks
from where i’m standing
that’s just the way it looks
from where i’m standing
from where i’m standing
i might make you mine
i might make you mine
from where i’m standing

Who Breaks a Butterfly Upon a Wheel?

Listening To: Neil Crespi’s Playlist. *crunch crunch* Isn’t he crispy? :D

Let Sporus tremble –”What? that thing of silk,
Sporus, that mere white curd of ass’s milk?
Satire or sense, alas! can Sporus feel?
Who breaks a butterfly upon a wheel?”
Yet let me flap this bug with gilded wings,
This painted child of dirt that stinks and stings;
Whose buzz the witty and the fair annoys,
Yet wit ne’er tastes, and beauty ne’r enjoys,

- Epistle to Dr. Arbuthnot by Alexander Pope

Butterfly on a WheelI was pleasantly surprised at how entertaining Butterfly on a Wheel is. I wasn’t expecting it to be that good.

I wasn’t really excited about it, I thought it’s just another one of Peirce Brosnan’s action movies. Boy was I wrong! It’s a small and simple film. No need for explosions and exaggerated special effects, the great actors and the excellent plot itself made the movie.

I don’t want to spoil it for you, but here’s a short synopsis:

Neil Randall and Abby Randall lived a perfect and happy life. With a blink of an eye, everything turned upside down when their young daughter, Sophie, got kidnapped. Suddenly they were forced to comply with the abductor’s demands. Over the next twenty-four hours, Neil and Abby were in the middle of a psychological game orchestrated by the sociopathic kidnapper, Ryan (Pierce Brosnan), who clearly didn’t want their money. Soon it became clear on what Ryan really wanted. In exchange for their daughter, Ryan wants Neil to kill somebody. Would they kill an innocent person in exchange for the safety of their daughter?

Awesome twist at the end. You wouldn’t guess the real plot of the story until it is finally revealed. Don’t be fooled by the simplicity of the summary, it’s just merely a scratch off the surface.

Note: In early 2007, the title was changed to Shattered.

Genre: Crime / Drama / Thriller

Tagline: Lives will be broken.

Cast:

Pierce Brosnan as Tom Ryan
Maria Bello as Abby Randall
Gerard Butler as Neil Randall
Callum Keith Rennie as Detective McGrath
Dustin Milligan as Matt Ryan
